$10 On Lucky 19

Recently, at a roulette table at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas the number 19 came up seven times in a row!

Putting $10 on 19 and letting it ride through the whole seven turns would have won over $600, 000, 000, 000…$600 Billion Dollars.

When something like that happens tons of folks think, “That could happen to me!”

No…it won’t. In fact, if you go to Las Vegas, Atlantic City or any city that has legalized gambling the probability that you will win is low. As someone once said to me, “They couldn’t build those humongous hotels and casinos if the public won most of the time.”

Here’s a different way of looking at the issue: If you took the same $10 and went to and bought a book about success, motivation or how to work smarter and read it the experience would be more likely to have a positive effect on your life than putting the $10 on 19.

If you’re gambling, gamble on yourself.

  1. A great post - and think of all of those people that spend money on lottery tickets with the hopes of getting rich quick. While I would be pleased to win the lottery (I don't participate), I have learned that working harder and smarter is the best path to success.

  2. Would it be luckier if the book were $19?
